Great Day

I’ve been thinking about the “Up” project for about 6 months now and today was the day to start cutting out figures.

Thanks to the great collage assignment quarter making series of things is now just fine by me.As one of my classmates shared it’s actually the process that’s fun for her.I’m finding it a good place to.

Today the fun continues with creating paper beads to act as the limbs from the off cuts.

Times

Well time travels quickly. We have a current exhibit up at A+C supplies in the U district.I’ve seen the first Salmonberry flowers of the year at Ruby Beach.Watched a woodpecker snack on breakfast.Made it back to Bellevue and snow this morning.

That would be Mad March for you.

New Places

I get very little feedback from this blog- something to work on in the New Year I think. So I’ve decided to be brave and create Essex Debs on Facebook. In a way this feels like coming out.Accepting that I value the art I make and a place to share collaborations and projects in a fast and at times dirty manner.

So friends forgive the spam and choose which feed you want to follow.Newbies just send a request.Looking forward to connecting.

A place to play

So I’m lucky enough to have a growing collection of arty and mixed media books.I’m also really untidy so wanted to develop a place to play in the next few months.
This is my desk try out area for 2012-the first deadly sin.Altering books is still regarded as this in my house by some..It’s not designed to go anywhere just a place to try techniques, ideas and share as the whim takes me.

I also added to my collection of books over the holidays.I finally have my own copy of Collaborative Art Journals by LL Ludwig and yesterday discovered Personal Geographies by Jill Berry.Got to doing that hand thing again !

It’s been a painful few months but I’m hoping things will continue to move on and improve. As Yaz says the only way up !

I also need to get on with exploring Surface Treatments Workshop so I’m off to play with that as well.

Part 2

More disc’s prepared for my final.
Way back it was suggested I make slinky books in necklace form.

The plan is to make two that nestle in the road to wealth and visually explore the concept of wealth. The artist statement will need to be much longer.

That creative curve again

So how did I suddenly decided to embark on the “Betty does NC” project well it just modular really.

That two simple sets of inchies and try to communicate meaning.

That need to collaborate and create a fun project around the most challenging time of the year for someone who lives many miles from their family.

The desire to produce “material evidence” of family connections.

Schools out for summer !

Why so quiet ? Just been too busy.Sharing was fun but exhausting.Letting others see your work is tough enough without having your table next to a featured artist in the museum who has just joined the docent body !
Leading the tactile art class yesterday was inspiring as ever.Getting the email regarding three boxes of glass lids and could I use them was even more fun.
I like to make recycled yard art. This baffle was found on Fay Bainbridge State park beach. It was a hazard to marine mammals so I removed it and used it last year to grow salads.A couple of weeks ago I read an article about succulent wall art pieces. We found some succulents and so I’ve been playing- mud pies with the teen but more of that after Father’s Day !
