Foundations

We have a crafty family but all explore very different media.

I have “stuff”,hubby has photography, and the teen paints and builds models in the basement.

Not sure the teen fully understood the fact that we pieced his first crazy quilt. We then took it to the tactile workshop and cut up to make fabric books and business card folios. It was a small class so I still have plenty to play with.

Flat packed girls

So I send a lot of crafty creations and my biggest challenge is writing customs form and not scaring the mail clerk too much.

There are rules around content and thickness of packages so I try to craft according.

My flat pack girl series is my response to this.It means no buttons (!),no beads(!!).

But what it does do is challenge me to use those hand sewing skills (see Sherbert) to add fine detail.

This is Fleur who lives in Norway. She is one of four. It’s been nearly 10 months since her creation and now I find myself wanting to go back and explore….

Good Advise

when the storms of life come… adjust your sails.

These were words sent in a surprise crafty package earlier this summer.I’ve sat down a number of times to try and formulate a reply in words and failed totally.
Instead I’ve sailed out the other side and created “Sherbet”

She’ll be heading to join her Sister in Norway any day soon-minus the needle.

PS if hubby really does read this thread “Stuffed” subscription would be perfect šŸ˜‰

Ginny sculpture celebration

Today was the celebration of this sculpture being shared with the people of Seattle.I saw the drawing in my visit to Ginny’s studio and home earlier this year.7yrs in the making this moving sculpture downtown makes a great statement about Seattle.

I was 2 miles away creating tactile art

Why we do

This morning was a unique occasion the chance to visit the home of an inspirational couple. The docent family shared their home and art.One of our new graduates Katie explained that this was the most important part of being a docent and gallery duty was just an extra bonus. That and the gentle arm stroke from an honor docent who simply said “glad you decided to stay around” made my day.

Thought I’d share the flowers in my deck garden and flowers in my crafting space.Must be summer time.

Moojo

When we arrived in the US I brought a sock monster making book in my carry on.Knowing that I would beĀ separated from my crafting supplies for at least 4 months these seemed like a good crafting option.

This weekend my brief was to create a stuffed animal and my partners request was a cow.I’ve been thinking about this project for about a week and in the end came down to exploring my sock stash.

For now this is a teaser of Jersey who just danced to the British national anthem as Jenson Button won the Canadian GP.Great job guys.

Think Pink !

Can’t share this yet as it goes in the mail tomorrow but I made a totally pink jewelery quilt on Friday.
Great fun but i learnt that Seam to fuse is tough to work through by hand not an experience I’ll repeat.
Saturday was spent watch hummingbirds fledging at Nisqually Nature Reserve.

Composition 2

Didn’t take long to add a couple of accents.Flowermouse’s squares and flowers, dragonfly found in parking lot (oops car park !).I’m sure that yellow button came via my Mum from Aunty Judy and SeaTac.The red square was knitted on triangular knitting needles which are very comfortable to use.Best of all the green sari silk I brought back from the UK at Christmas.

Time to plug a first for me.When I went to the UK at Christmas “Barleylands” kept being mentioned.Eventually on my second to last day we visit. It was amazing Craft Arena run by Denise Gannon(www.craftarena.co.uk) stocks all the mixed media fibres and supplies I could hope for.Basildon finally has a crafting centre to be proud of.I had been looking for sari silk on the West coast of the US but here to was in deepest darkest Essex.
